A favorite book, movie, or album: I love music and movies too much to be able to pick a favorite. The movie Warrior is a favorite movie. I know this is kind of cheating, but one of my favorite albums is Pink Floyd’s Pulse tour live.

bess Farrell

Hello! My name is Bess Farrell. I am relatively new to VSF and the elder board. I was initially drawn to VSF because of its sincere desire to be a community of believers, living life together, centered in the love of the Trinity. As a single woman, sharing deep relationships with others in an atmosphere of genuine love and honesty, is deeply satisfying and comforting. I appreciate the invitation VSF extends to all to bring to the table of our shared community life all of our gifts, offering them to God first and to each other generously. As the body of Christ in this place and for this time, VSF sees each member as “essential” to God’s work in the world and in our neighborhoods and community.

Michelle Marshall

My name is Michelle Marshall and I am new to the elder board, but not to this church. I have attended VSF for over 35 years. I came to Valley Springs in the spring of my senior year of college. I was searching for something MORE. What’s drawn me here and kept me here is the hope that we can find our way together to participate in the Life within the Trinity, to be the face, hands, and feet of Jesus in our community, to live together alongside of one another, as imperfect as we are, and to move in such a way that encourages us to truly live as if God is Bigger than our understanding. I desire to continue searching together for ways to listen to the voice of the Spirit leading us to BE the upside-down kingdom in this world.

Tom Morgan

I’m Tom Morgan. I’ve been attending VSF since I moved to Indiana from WI in 1994. One of the things I appreciate most about our group is authenticity. I grew up in a system where spirituality was measured primarily by appearance. Therefore, letting people see me struggle and living vulnerably in the midst of community was not encouraged. Looking deeper into my soul or that of another also wasn’t valued. At VSF I feel the freedom to come as I am. I can acknowledge life is often messy AND be reminded that we long to love God and others—even if we aren’t very good at it in any given moment. Pursuing God together in the midst of these authentic relationships is incredibly valuable to me.

Rhonda Peugh

Hi, my name is Rhonda Peugh. I am new to the Elder board, but have been a member of VSF for a little over 30 years. My husband and I began attending Valley Springs while in college, and I fell in love with the people here, and the authentic community this group offers.

I’m so grateful for how Valley Springs has shaped me and my family, and I’m looking forward to where God may be leading us in the days ahead. May we learn more of the Father’s deep love for us, and may he give us courage to love those he loves, and discover more of Him along the way.

Andy Popenfoose

My name is Andy Popenfoose, and I began attending VSF several months after moving to Warsaw in 2014. I appreciated that church members were in regular contact with each other throughout the week opposed to strictly on Sundays. On a simple level, as a social fellow, I liked that dozens of people stuck around after the service to talk with each other rather than racing to the parking lot.

On a deeper level, I was drawn to the culture of humility. It’s refreshing to be with a group who seeks the truth and wants to follow God, while at the same time not personally pretending to have all of the answers. I have found that this provides an inviting way to learn things and take in new ideas, as well as to be honest about where I am with my own faith and reflections on my past.

VSF became my church back in 1990 when I was dating my soon-to-be wife. Since our marriage in 1991, Nancy and I have loved belonging to this group of followers of Christ because VSF encourages and expects us to confront our sin and be comfortable with the uncomfortable. To hear people share stories of heartbreak, discouragement, and personal failure, and still be accepted for who they are was then—and still is—unique to my faith experience.

That we can celebrate a Savior who knows us to the depths of our sinfulness and deeper – that at the core of our beings we are lovers of God – is good news. VSF has taught me that it is well with my soul.

My favorite verses are John 5: 6 – [Jesus] asked him, “Do you want to get well?” and John 5: 8 – “Get up. Pick up your mat and walk.” These verses say to me that Love incarnate is telling me, “Move.” They inform me that Love is action.

David Terry

I first came to VSF in the late 80s. I joined the elder board in the early 90s serving several terms, learning much from other men and women who were passionate about loving God and those he placed in their path, both in and outside this body of believers. I was drawn to a church that promoted being honest before God about what was truly in your heart, not covering up what was broken in our lives. It is a place where deep and ongoing healing and repentance can take place. It is a place where living in true community is central. After several terms off the board, I recently returned to assist in a time of leadership transition. I am excited about what God will do in this group during the next few years.
